I wanted to pay homage to an era that paved the way for modern hip hop artists such as myself known as the “harlem renaissance”. The 1920s & 30s brought along an explosion of black socialism, intellectualism and artistry that manifested in urban hubs like NYC. Jazz bloomed in the hood then quickly grew to become one of the most beloved genres nationwide, then internationally. “Jive” was a term for the slanguage used by black musicians & singers as their own way of interacting with each other and expressing themselves. Sounds fucking familiar right..? HIP HOP is undeniably the most influential, powerful music genre we’ve seen thus far but we must never forget that JAZZ is the granddaddy. Without greats like Cab Calloway, Fats Waller & Josephine Baker, there would be no us. “Jive Talk” is a homage to an era that we honour and parallel every single day unwittingly. Spent a year & a half grinding thru blood sweat & tears to craft this project in the hopes of making someting groundbreaking while expressing my innermost self. Hope y’all feel it.
